Want to Know the Truth About Forest Management and Wildfire?

For a more in-depth dive into the science, see our joint objection to the US Forest Service Project, submitted with Plumas Forest Project and John Muir Project which includes maps and descriptions about how thinning put the communities of Greenville and Paradise in harm’s way.

The USFS is turning protected mature and old growth forests from this:

into this:

Not only is this ugly and unnecessary, it’s hurting nature, further endangering the climate (driving extreme wildfires), and putting communities at risk. This is a failed strategy and the sooner we all realize it and change course, the better…

  1. Petition signed to urge US Governor to ban forest fire.
Trees and water, land and animals are part of econature and maintaining ecosystem is important to the health of both human, nature and wildlifes.

    1. Well we need more fire on the landscape of all kinds, but safer communities so people don’t get hurt. We just need to stop the industrial logging and wolf killing!

  2. I just had a key realization I want to share—there’s something happening right now that could completely change how our Sierra Nevada forests are “managed”, and it centers on the election just a few days away. Proposition 50, on the ballot this year, might not be on everyone’s radar for environmental reasons per say, but it’s absolutely critical.
Here’s why: The entire forest management issue in large part depends on who represents the forested districts in Congress. Right now, Republicans like Doug LaMalfa, Kevin Kiley, and Tom McClintock control the entire Sierra Nevada region. They’re not just backing destructive thinning and logging—they refuse to listen to our arguments at all because they are firmly in the grip of big timber.
On the other hand, Democrats like Adam Schiff have shown they can change their minds when they listen to their constituents. Schiff voted against the Fix Our Forests Act after hearing from Californians! Political will to protect our forests can and does exist—but only where politicians represent forested districts where these issues are relevant and only when they are truly accountable to their constituents.
Proposition 50 is designed to redraw the 1st, 3rd, and 4th congressional districts, flipping them from red to blue. That means putting Northern Sierra forests in the hands of lawmakers who might actually listen to us—and who are more likely to oppose logging disguised as “forest health treatments”. With this shift, our voices will finally have a chance of being heard in Congress, and the entrenched narrative may finally be challenged.
Truth only wins when it is heard. “Of all the things at risk, the loss of an objective reality is perhaps the most dangerous. “The death of truth is the ultimate victory of evil.” — Tony Gilroy, Andor. We have a real chance to flip the script through political empowerment. Mobilize every forest-conscious voter to pass Prop 50, and we lay the foundation for lasting change and honest discussions about true forest resilience: home hardening and defensible space.
This is the moment to make our vote count while it truly matters more than ever. Tell all your friends—now is the time to head to the ballot box. Voting YES on Prop 50 means voting for democracy AND for the survival of our forests.

    1. Thanks Richard, yes there is some hope that the “wall of denial” we have seen from Republican congressional representatives has a chance of turning around, however we need good D candidates. The ones I have seen were very much in favor of intensive “forest management,” so if you are for real solutions to wildfires and climate chaos, consider running in one of these new districts. BTW it looks very likely that Prop. 50 will pass.
